We have all heard it before: Boy is going to pop the big question, but does something stupid with the ring. It falls down a sewer grate, off of bridge, down 10 flights of stairs, (or in this case, off of a sand dollar that was tied to a pier post, and into the ocean). But it always ends up found and fine in the end, right?
Not in the story above. After four hours of fruitless searching, the would-be groom, distraught bride, and a handful of good Samaritans had to give up with the rising tide. I could see the article's end in sight, but no ring had been retrieved.
Could it really be a sad ending? Not quite. So as not to ruin the surprise for you, I will say only this: Thank goodness for mothers who predict the dumb behavior of their children, and plan for it accordingly!
