As I read about the resolution recently passed in California apologizing to Italians and Italian Americans for their terrible treatment during WWII, I couldn't help but be reminded of how we are ostracizing Arabs and Arab Americans today. What kind of atrocities are we going to need to apologize for 50 years from now?
We are not relocating Arabs like we did to Japanese and Italians during World War II, but do they feel safe and welcomed in their communities? We are not enforcing 8 pm curfews, or limiting how far Muslims can travel, but do they feel comfortable wearing their burka's around their neighborhoods?
The modern relevance of this resolution cannot be overstated. Take the time to click the link. Hopefully, if enough folks become informed, we can finally learn from our past mistakes, and not have to say "We're sorry" again.
